November 15: Rediscovering neighborliness post election
In which, the dust settles post election, President-elect Trump builds his team, the Democrats retread “Resistance”, and world conflicts ominously rumble on.
Rediscovering neighborliness post election
You won’t see this in much of the mainstream, legacy media, but conservative and independent media have picked up a trend of both violent rhetoric and violent action emanating from the progressive left in the immediate aftermath of the election. Some of the stories are really quite bizarre (the conspiracy theorist, prepper shoe seems to be on the other foot). I wouldn’t say they’re representative of the typical progressive response to the GOP’s sweep last week, but given that some form of hand wringing seems to be the general response from the left, let me offer an anecdotal vignette of what I hope is, or can be, the norm in our post-election communities.
There’s a cluster of four or five houses in my community that made their electoral preferences known this election with the prominent display of Harris-Walz and Trump-Vance flags and signs. It was really quite patriotic, I thought, to see these houses display their American flags and campaign flags. I rather enjoyed driving past that microcosm of American democracy every day, but I wondered, “What would happen after Election Day?” Beautifully, with one exception, the campaign flags came down, but the American flags stayed up. That’s how it’s done, friends. I don’t know if those neighbors are all talking to one another or are on friendly terms, but at least they recognized that partisan differences can take a back seat to living together in a community.
Regardless of how your team did last week, may the results not separate us from those we do life with in the day to day. Onwards!
