The Weekly Brief - December 7, 2018
Not to take away from the events of the past week at the G20 and in other areas of world politics, but I want to dedicate this week’s newsletter to one of America’s great foreign policy presidents: George H.W. Bush. As you may have heard, #41 passed away last week and his state funeral was held on Wednesday, December 5, and this week has been declared a national week of mourning.
The reasons I dedicate the whole of this space to President Bush are twofold:
First, Tim Talks Politics seeks to explain “the why” behind government. The passing of leaders, the manner in which we mourn, the assessment of their legacies, and the examples they leave us invite us to reflect on those “whys.”
Second, TTP emphasizes global politics and America’s place in the world order and George Bush occupies a critical place in the post Cold War order we now live in (as does his foreign policy team).
With that being said, I highly recommend a viewing of the full funeral. It’s two hours long, but you can skip the music and other parts of ceremony and listen to the eulogies. They are diverse in their approaches, which is probably fitting for a president who lived some a long and storied life.
Without further ado, then, below you’ll find the video of the full funeral, with links to additional eulogies below that.
